Issues at a Glance

In the House of Delegates, Jeannemarie Devolites, a moderately conservative Republican, voted for repeal of the death tax, but also voted for the Sales Tax Referendum defeated by voters last fall,  Voted for a ban on partial birth abortions, for parental consent before a minor’s abortion, for increased penalties for child pornography, for charter schools, for authorizing the national motto “In God We Trust” in public buildings, for informing parents when their minor child receives medical attention, and for improved health and safety standards at abortion clinics. She has not returned her issues Survey.

Ron Christian, a Democrat, favors reducing traffic congestion (no specifics offered), limited growth, improving conditions for Fairfax’s elderly, disabled and children (no specifics or costs cited), and fighting for Fairfax County’s share of state tax revenue.  He supports the gay legislative agenda, and is endorsed by the Virginia Partisans Gay & Lesbian Democratic Club.  He says he is a fiscal conservative, but he also supports increased funding for education and universal health care under the age of 8.  His website does not give his positions on abortion, tax increases, education choice, transportation, limiting property tax increases (except that he won’t pledge to cap spending programs), or education standards.  He has not returned his Issues Survey.
